Product Detail
This versatile, easy-to-use and non-toxic liquid dye is ready to deliver vibrant color to almost any type of fabric or fabric blend, including cotton, linen, silk, wool, rayon, ramie or nylon. Perfect for rejuvenating faded clothing, changing the color of apparel, shoes or accessories, coordinating home décor, hiding laundry accidents and so much more. Looking to create something unique? Rit has been tie-dyeing clothing and décor for decades. It's also the perfect tool to create an ombré, dip dyed, marbled or shibori pattern. It can even dye wood, wicker, paper and cork. Plus, because it is a pre-mixed concentrated liquid, you can use a little or a lot depending on your project and have the flexibility to save it for another time. Whether you are rescuing faded jeans, creating a costume or decorating for a party, all you need is a washing machine, plastic container or stainless steel sink to get started.
Preparation & Usage
Please Note: Color results vary by fabric type, amount of dye used, water temperature and time in dye bath. Not recommended for synthetic fibers (acrylic, acetate or fabrics containing more than 35% polyester). Instead, use Rit® Dyemore Synthetic Fiber Dye. Not recommended for fabrics with a rubber backing or labeled cold water wash or dry clean only. May not be effective on bleach damaged fabrics. If in doubt, test dye a swatch first. Preparation: Pre-wash fabric to remove any finishes or stains. For every pound of dry fabric (i.e. two adult large t-shirts), use 1/2 bottle of dye with 3 gallons of the hottest water safe for fabric. Add 1 teaspoon of liquid dish detergent. To achieve a darker or more intense color, double dye quantity. For best results, add 1 cup of salt to dyebath for cotton, rayon, or linen. Add 1 cup of vinegar to dyebath for nylon, silk or wool. If dyeing to a lighter or different color, use Rit® Color Remover before dyeing to lighten existing color in most fabrics. Directions: Shake well before using. Wear rubber gloves. Fill a plastic bucket, stainless steel sink or stainless steel pot with enough Hot water for fabric to move freely. Add dye. Mix well. Add wet fabric to dyebath. Stir constantly for 30 minutes or until desired color is achieved (up to 60 min.). Fabric will look darker when wet and prior to washing. Rinse with cool water until rinse water begins to run clear. Wash in warm water with mild detergent. Clean up with bleach. Use Rit® Color Stay Dye Fixative immediately after dyeing cotton, linen or rayon to maximize color retention. Tips: Dyeing in a washing machine is the most convenient method for dyeing large items.
