Saker ShopRites, Inc.

The Saker family has been operating grocery stores since 1916 when Richard Saker’s great-grandfather opened a “mom and pop” store in Freehold, New Jersey. Richard’s father Joseph joined Wakefern in 1947, a few months after it was established, and was an active member of the cooperative. Today, Richard and family, including brothers Tom and Joe and Richard's son Rick, own and operate 39 ShopRites in central New Jersey and work tirelessly to create a “World Class” shopping experience for all their customers.

Community

In addition to our World Class service, Saker ShopRites is proud to support its local communities through a variety of fundraising efforts, including participation in the Check-Out Hunger program and support of New Jersey Food Banks. Saker ShopRites has played a key role in establishing Joan Dancy and Pals (People with ALS), an organization that provides support for those suffering from ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) and their families. With the help of our associates, we have raised more than one million dollars for this worthwhile organization, the first of its kind in New Jersey.

We are also proud of our support for the Vision of Children Foundation, an organization devoted to combating childhood blindness. Richard and Laura Saker have been honored with the “Vision of Heroes” award from singer Andrea Bocelli for their work for this cause.
