Inserra Supermarkets a family-owned and operated company where third and fourth generation family members continue the family tradition of caring for our communities and all 25 of our stores provide unparalleled professional service, locally sourced specialty items, farm to table fresh produce, dairy, meats and poultry, and the largest selection of brands at the best prices in the marketplace. And as one of the region’s largest employers, our family-owned chain provides full- and part-time positions to more than 5000 associates. Our stores are run at the local level and each of our stores is a neighborhood supermarket that serves the needs of the local community not a corporate office. The family ownership business model of families serving families is a ShopRite tradition and enables our family to meet the needs of the neighborhoods we serve with products, services and charitable support.
Company History and Overview
It all began with a butcher shop. Working alongside his wife, Patsy Inserra had a vision of growing his business by creating a grocery store dedicated to serving local families and being a good neighbor. In 1954, he turned that dream into a reality when he opened the doors of Patsy’s in Lyndhurst, New Jersey. With the entrepreneurial guidance of the late Lawrence Inserra, the company expanded to 14 ShopRite stores by 1981. Today, under the direction of Lawrence Inserra Jr., Chairman and CEO, the family’s third and fourth generations and Ron Onorato, president and COO, that family and community focus continues at all 23 Inserra ShopRite and two PriceRite Marketplace stores. In New Jersey, Inserra Supermarkets 18 ShopRites are located in Bergen, Hudson and Passaic Counties, and in New York, 5 stores are located in Rockland County. The Inserra Family also owns and operates two PriceRite Marketplace stores in Garfield and Paterson, New Jersey.
Since Inserra Supermarkets’ earliest days, three main principles have been the Inserra Creed

Our stores are family owned and operated and each individual store caters to the needs of the local community and provides resources that enhance the community and support local organizations. As third and fourth generation grocers, we have spent our lives listening to our customers and learning what they want and need in their neighborhood supermarket. The family ownership business model of families serving families is a ShopRite tradition and is the cornerstone of our family’s success in meeting the needs of the neighborhoods we serve.
At Inserra Supermarkets our ShopRite stores offer a wide selection of groceries including both store and national brands, fresh produce and a variety of locally sourced, organic and gluten-free foods. Our stores also feature signature Inserra store departments.

Following in the footsteps of company founder Patsy Inserra, each generation of the Inserra family has built upon his mission to lend a helping hand to those in need. As a family-owned and operated business our family lives and works in our community and our customers, our associates our neighbors have been an extension of our family from the day we opened our first store. More than 75 years later our family and our extended family has grown and so has our commitment to care for our local communities.
