The pistachios were distributed to food processors and used as ingredients in products sold under a varietyof brands. Many items have already been recalled and we expect that the number of recalled items will expand over time. At this time, the pistachio nuts have not been linked to any illnesses but the contamination involves multiple strains of salmonella which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the elderly and others with weakened immune systems. The FDA recommends that consumers avoid eatingpistachio products until further information is available about affected products.The FDA is updating their website with the most current information as the list of recalled products expands. The FDA has traced one likely source of contamination to peanut butter and peanut paste produced at a Peanut Corporation of America processing facility. Peanut paste is used by food manufacturers as an ingredient in many products including cakes, cookies, crackers, candies, cereal and ice cream. Products that use peanut paste supplied by Peanut Corporation of America are being recalled as a precautionary measure. Jarred peanut butter packaged for consumer use and sold in retail stores has not been linked to this recall. At this time, two ShopRite products have been recalled because our supplier informed us that they contain peanut paste produced by Peanut Corporation of America. The recalled products are:
